Frequently Asked Questions

Did you know that the JCPS makes available FREE face-to-face counseling service to employees and their household members?

"Yes. But I'm not crazy and I don't have an alcohol or drug problem. I thought the EAP only treated alcohol and drug problems."

This is a common misconception. Most people seek help for relationship issues and general stress. Employees also seek help for depression, anxiety, panic attacks, grief and loss.

How many free visits do I get?

Employees each are entitled to 3 free sessions with the EAP.

How can I be certain the EAP is confidential?

Employee Assistance Program records are protected by law. We cannot release any information unless we get your written permission. The only exception to this rule is if we determine that you are a threat to yourself or someone else.

Do I have to participate in the JCPS' insurance program to use the EAP?

No. The EAP is separate from your insurance benefit. All employees are eligible.

Will my therapist be licensed?

Yes. The EAP provides face to face counseling with a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist, or Licensed Family and Marital Therapist. SAI staff members have a minimum of 14 years experience.

What happens if my problem takes longer than the number of sessions allotted?

You are referred to the best possible resource covered by your Health Insurance Plan.

I have some concerns about my elderly parents. Can the EAP help?

The EAP clinician can explain most geriatric problems and advise about resources and levels of care.

Does the EAP ever come to to the work site for Counseling?

Yes. The EAP is available to come to your work site for grief counseling when a team member has been lost through illness or accident; or following an unusual workplace incident which has caused the team anxiety.

Will my employer get to see my EAP records?

No. Your employer does not get a list of who attends the EAP. JCPS wants you to have help available when you need it.
