Sometimes a telephone call is all that is needed to put an employee's mind at ease. Most of the time, however, the counselor will match the caller with an appropriate counselor. The selected counselor calls the employee within 24 hours (except for emergencies which are handled immediately) to arrange a face-to-face interview to evaluate the problem and discuss the various options. Eighty five per cent of the time, problems are resolved within the EAP without the need for referral. In those cases where outside referral is necessary, the counselor works with the client and her/his insurance provider to obtain the most cost efficient service.
