According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are over 1.5 million assaults in the workplace every year, over 1000 of which are fatal.  No one is immune these days.

Traumatic incidents such as workplace assaults, robbery, suicide, sudden natural or unnatural death of a coworker or a coworker's child, and natural disasters at the work site can leave employees stunned, disturbed, depressed, and unable to perform their jobs effectively.

The early appearance of a critical incident consultant on-site is reassuring to the employees - they know the organization is responding.
